Confessions of a Slacker

What can I say? I'm a bit of a slacker - and I've never managed to consistently journal or blog for very long. I am still reading things - and eventually I'll talk about some of them. The whole "not having an internet connection at home" thing has been both a blessing and a curse. It's probably caused me to waste less time tooling around on the interwebs and thus freed up more time for actual reading, but it's also forced me to work a bit harder to keep up with this project.

Speaking of projects - I am epically failing at my Vonnegut Project, but I'm not giving up. I'm just going to be taking things a bit slower than I had planned.

I've been manically adding books to my to-read list...and at this rate I'll never, ever finish reading them. In related news, I've several times lately been thwarted by the library not having a book that I'm looking for. I can't afford to buy books willy nilly, especially if it isn't a book I know I'll read again; I am still looking for a solution.

Sometimes life is hard y'all, and I've been feeling a little more stress than usual this year. I feel like I'm handling (at least some of it) better than usual - yay for developing coping mechanisms! But some days are still tough. One thing that I've gotten better at over the years is recognizing when I'm feeling stress. Doing so may not relieve the stress, but it helps me respond to it in a more healthy way. For example: putting myself to bed early and monitoring my social activities to ensure that I have enough downtime.

Some things this week that clued me in that I might be a little extra stressed:
  1. I started having the urge to alphabetize things and make lists - two very definite tells that I am feeling like I don't have enough control in my life.
  2. I went to library and did this:

Yep. I checked out 7 YA novels. To be fair, I did look for a couple of other books too, but they were either already checked out or not available. But, lets be honest, we know that YA novels are one of my guilty pleasures....I don't have any cowboy romances on deck, so this is the way I'm going to turn my brain off and relax this weekend.
And maybe, just maybe I'll spend some time putting together some thoughts on some of the things I've been reading.

Until then - Happy Reading!!
